Mr. Babenco – Soliloquy for Two Without One

Mr. Babenco – Soliloquy for Two Without One is a memoir by filmmaker Hector Babenco (1946-2016). The work is made up of conversations that he and actress Bárbara Paz, his wife, had at the end of the Pixote director's life – until the couple's last dinner.

Provoked by Bárbara's questions, Babenco talks about his childhood in Argentina, the discovery of his first cancer, the behind-the-scenes of his films. She is the one who organizes the book, punctuated by this intimate dialogue about the life and work of the filmmaker responsible for films such as Kiss of the Spider Woman, Carandiru, The Past and My Hindu Friend, his latest. The work also features unpublished poems written by Babenco in his youth – in Spanish and Portuguese – and some photographic records.

SHOOT ON THE ROAD

Canal Brasil

Canal Brasil premieres the program Curta na Estrada, which is an offshoot of the Curta São Paulo attraction. The original program was shown in 2009 on the channel and showed short videos to viewers.

Curta na Estrada was led by actress Bárbara Paz who, alongside Rafael Primot, produced the attraction's short films. In total, the program had 13 episodes and featured stories on different themes.

The program team chose to choose short films that show the different regions of Brazil from unusual angles. Innovations in characters, history or even art are very valid in the production of Curta na Estrada videos. The authors of the works must fascinate viewers and also show new experiences.

“During the filming of the feature My Hindu Friend, I captured intimate moments between the creator and the creature with a small camera. Hector Babenco lends his alter-ego to actor Willem Dafoe to bring to life the story of his fight against a terminal illness. The director shows that cinema can bring us back to life.” - Barbara Paz
